The President Michael D Higgins has led tributes to renowned Irish poet John Montague, who has died at the age of 87. He died in hospital in France after a short illness. President Higgins described his work as "immense", and said his death was "another great loss to Irish letters". And Director of Poetry Ireland Maureen Kennelly said "John Montague was a major figure in Irish literature".
