Schools, Council Offices and Libraries Closed Across Wexford Today as Public Sector Industrial Action Escalates

Schools, libraries, council offices and a number of public services across County Wexford are closed to the public today, Wednesday, October 14th, as industrial action by public sector workers intensifies.

The disruption is affecting services throughout the county, with Wexford County Council confirming that all of its public offices, including Municipal District Offices, libraries and civic amenity sites, will remain closed for the day.

The closures will affect people across Wexford town, Enniscorthy, Gorey, New Ross and Rosslare, with the local authority warning that reduced staffing levels could also lead to delays in accessing services by telephone.

However, essential emergency services will continue to operate, and a central telephone service will remain available.

The local authority has confirmed that the following facilities are closed to the public today:

  • Wexford County Council's public offices, including County Hall.

  • Municipal and District Offices throughout the county.

  • Public libraries.

  • Civic amenity sites.

While the Council says it will endeavour to maintain operations, it cannot guarantee that all services will be available.

Members of the public who need to contact Wexford County Council can telephone 053 919 6000, which also serves as the Council's emergency contact number outside normal office hours.

Residents are being asked to expect possible delays because of reduced staffing levels.

People with urgent planning or motor tax business are being advised to use the online services at eplanning.ie and motortax.ie, where possible.

Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board has confirmed that all of its schools, education centres and administrative offices are closed today, October 14th, because of the industrial action.

This means pupils, parents and adult learners attending WWETB-operated facilities across County Wexford are affected.

Parents of children attending other schools are advised to check communications issued directly by their school to establish what arrangements are in place.

Despite the disruption to public services, Wexford County Council says emergency services will continue operating.

Anyone needing urgent assistance with a Council-related emergency can contact 053 919 6000.

For an immediate life-threatening emergency, members of the public should call 999 or 112.

The Council has apologised for the inconvenience and says further updates will be provided as information becomes available.

Members of the public are advised to check arrangements before travelling to council offices, libraries, education centres or other affected public facilities.
