Rosslare Councillor Ger Carthy has voiced concern over a recent spate of dead swans discovered along the shores of Our Lady's Island Lake, which has raised fears of bird flu. Over the last week and a half, several swans have been found deceased, and while bird flu is suspected, the exact cause of death remains unconfirmed. The National Parks and Wildlife Service has informed the Department of Agriculture, which is responsible for testing and removing the birds, but Carthy has criticized the lack of immediate action by the Department. "There are about 150 swans on the lake and we're worried that many of them may succumb to this illness," said Carthy. "It is critical that the Department of Agriculture responds quickly to remove the dead birds, test them and prevent any potential spread of the disease." The Chair of the Rosslare Municipal District voiced the urgency of the situation, particularly given the ongoing bird flu concerns affecting poultry farms in the region. "We can't afford to wait any longer. This is a serious issue for the local area and the Department must act immediately," he added.
