Teagasc fodder clinics to help Wexford farmers plan for winter

Teagasc is to hold a series of fodder clinics in Wexford next week as farmers across the county continue to deal with the impact of drought conditions.

The clinics are being organised in counties most affected by the dry weather, with farmers being encouraged to assess their fodder supplies early and plan ahead for the winter and into spring 2027.

Teagasc will hold three fodder clinics in County Wexford on Wednesday, September 2nd.

The clinics will take place at:

• Gorey – 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm
• Enniscorthy – 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm
• Johnstown Castle – 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm

Farmers are being encouraged to attend and speak with Teagasc advisers about their fodder position and planning for the winter months.

Teagasc says this will allow advisers to put together an individual fodder plan and help farmers make decisions about their feed requirements.

Ger Shortle, Manager of the Teagasc Carlow/Wicklow/Wexford advisory region, says advisers will also be providing guidance on fodder budgeting, diets, managing livestock numbers, catch crops and decisions around fertiliser and slurry.

A fodder webinar for the Carlow/Wicklow/Wexford region will also take place on Thursday, August 27th at 7pm.

Teagasc says taking action early will help farmers make the best decisions for their farm businesses and avoid potential feed shortages later in the year.
