Three schools in County Wexford are among the 105 schools announced to benefit from the latest round of the Safe Routes to School Programme. St. Fintan's Taghmon, St. Anne's Rathangan and Kennedy College will see new safety measures introduced, including upgraded footpaths, pedestrian crossings and road markings, aimed at making walking, cycling and wheeling to school safer for students. These improvements are part of a national initiative to reduce traffic congestion, promote active travel and support public health and climate goals. Since its launch in 2021, the programme has already reached 526 schools across Ireland with ongoing projects in every county. Minister Darragh O’Brien highlighted the ongoing success of the scheme which has seen significant increases in walking and cycling to school alongside a reduction in car use.
