Two New Boats For Slaney Search And Rescue Group

Slaney Search and Rescue have purchased two new boats to help out with its rescue operations.

The group has secured a Whaly 210 and a Whaly 270 with thanks to a 5 thousand euro grant as part of the Local Enhancement Programme.

It says the boats will "be a valuable addition to our equipment, helping us to carry out our recovery and search activities more effectively."

The boats will also arrive in a timely manner as the people of Enniscorthy prepare for another winter which could see another major flooding incident along the River Slaney.

The Local Enhancement Programme provides funding for groups to facilitate "upgrades, accessibility improvements, energy-efficiency measures and the purchase of essential equipment."

€7 million was announced for groups earlier this year and other Wexford receipients include the Bridgetown Men's Shed, Clonard Girl Guides and St Aiden's Community Hall in Bunclody.

The organisers have thanked the Department of Rural and Community Development for helping them to "serve the local community."

That report was funded by the Local Democracy Reporting Scheme.
