Uk arrests expected after 80 million euro worth of drugs seized off cork coast
Police in Britain are expected to make arrests after 80 million euro worth of cocaine was seized from a yacht off the Cork coast. A Joint Task Force of gardaí, customs and navy officers made the seizure early on Tuesday morning. Three British men were arrested on board the vessel, which is understood to have sailed from the Caribbean. The yacht is being detained at Haulbowline and forensic analysis of the drugs will also take place today. It is thought the cocaine was destined for the UK or European black markets. The Irish Independent southern correspondent Ralph Riegel says more arrests are likely to be made in Britain today. "Certainly there's a very, very strong UK involvement in this - the three men that are in custody are all UK nationals" he said. "At the moment, the UK police are cooperating with the Irish authorities, and my understanding is that at least two to three other people of interest are currently being sought in the UK". "A number of properties are also being searched over there - so this investigation has a long way to run yet" he added.
