Wexford Families Encouraged to Book Remaining Summer Holiday Programme Places

Families across County Wexford are being encouraged to secure the remaining places on summer holiday programmes as demand for school-age childcare remains strong during the school holidays.

Sherpa Kids Ireland says its summer programmes have seen significant interest this year, with limited availability remaining at Kennedy Park National School in Wexford Town and New Ross Educate Together National School.

The organisation, which provides before-school, after-school and holiday programmes nationwide, says its summer camps offer children opportunities to stay active, make new friends and take part in a variety of activities while also providing practical support for working parents.

The appeal comes as new research commissioned by Sherpa Kids Ireland, involving more than 600 parents of primary school-aged children, found that 63 per cent rely on holiday programmes during school breaks.

The survey also highlighted concerns around children's screen time during the summer, with two-thirds of parents saying their children spend more than two hours each day on digital devices while schools are closed. Nearly one in five said their children spend more than five hours a day using screens.

Encouragingly, 91 per cent of parents believe structured holiday programmes help reduce screen time by providing opportunities for physical activity, social interaction and new experiences.

Jennifer Lee, Chief Executive of Sherpa Kids Ireland, said holiday programmes offer much more than childcare.

She said they help children build confidence, make friendships and stay active throughout the summer, while giving parents peace of mind as they balance work and family life.

Sherpa Kids is operating programmes at more than 60 locations across Ireland this summer, with many eligible for support through the National Childcare Scheme.

Parents looking to secure one of the remaining places in Wexford are encouraged to book early as availability is expected to fill quickly.
