Wexford farmers picket dunnes stores over cut-price vegetable offers
Wexford farmers - angry at massive vegetable discounts being offered by Dunnes Stores -protested at the company's supermarkets in Ennniscorthy and Gorey today. Farmers entered the stores and bought vegetables priced at 6 cent before giving them away to charity and the public. The protestors later moved from the Gorey Dunnes branch on to the Enniscorthy store. Wexford IFA Rural Development Chairman Pat Murray says the massive discounts on vegetables is harming farmers and small traders. And he explained that they didn't protest at other supermarkets such as Aldi and Lidl offering similar price cuts as they're paying full price to their suppliers.
