Eight community heritage projects in County Wexford have secured a combined €125,316 under the Heritage Council’s Community Heritage Grant Scheme.
The funding forms part of a nationwide investment of more than €2 million supporting 127 heritage projects across Ireland.
The scheme supports community groups, voluntary organisations and NGOs working to protect, preserve and promote local heritage through conservation, biodiversity, education and community engagement projects.
Among the successful Wexford applications are Courtown Community Council’s “Courtown-Riverchapel Heritage Audit,” which received €25,000, and Enniscorthy Athenaeum’s conservation management plan project, awarded €24,600.
Druimcree Historical Group also secured more than €23,000 for a conservation management plan for the Victorian Public Toilets in Bunclody.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne said the funding will help communities safeguard and celebrate their shared heritage for future generations.
All funded projects will host public events during National Heritage Week in August.
