Wexford recorded its highest monthly level of housing commencements so far this year in April, with 175 new homes commenced across the county.
The latest figures from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage also show that a total of 471 housing commencements have taken place in Wexford since the beginning of 2026, compared to 189 during the same period last year, representing a significant year-on-year increase.
Of the 175 new homes commenced in April, 124 (71%) are scheme dwellings, 12 (7%) are apartments and 39 (22%) are for one-off units.
Nationally, more than 11,000 new homes have been commenced since the start of the year, up 176% from the same period in 2025.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne said the figures were a strong indication that housing delivery is continuing to move in the right direction.
“It is very encouraging to once again see continued improved commencement figures compared to last year, and I believe it's a significant indicator that things are truly moving in the right direction when it comes to building the new homes we need throughout the country,” he said.
Of the homes commenced nationally in April, 56% were scheme dwellings, 27% were apartments and 17% were one-off units. The highest number of commencements by local authority was recorded in Fingal, followed by Dublin City and Westmeath.
