People across Wexford are being encouraged to host Team Hope Tea Parties this June as part of a nationwide effort to raise funds for children and families affected by poverty in Africa.
The initiative, led by Irish charity Team Hope, invites communities, schools, workplaces and families to come together for simple tea party events throughout the month, with the aim of raising €50,000 nationally.
Best known for its Christmas Shoebox Appeal, the charity says the new campaign will help fund community savings groups, education projects and long-term supports in countries including Burundi, Rwanda and Malawi.
Primary schools are being encouraged to lead the way, with pupils from Kill O’The Grange National School officially launching the campaign, helping spark what organisers hope will become a nationwide movement.
Team Hope says the idea is to build on the goodwill already shown across Ireland, particularly through the shoebox appeal, by creating more opportunities for communities to connect and support lasting development projects.
Chief Executive Deborah Lowry said even small community gatherings can make a significant difference, pointing to real-life examples where small savings groups have helped families build businesses and improve living conditions.
People in Wexford who want to take part can register their own tea party and access fundraising packs and resources at teamhope.ie.
