Wexford lecturers join colleagues across the it network on strike
Lecturers at the Wexford campus of IT Carlow have joined their colleagues in other institutes of technology in strike action today. It comes as the row over cutbacks and staffing levels escalates. The TUI says the number of students has increased by 22,000 since 2008 - while the number of lecturing positions has fallen by 550. Frank Keane is lecturer at the Wexford campus. Speaking to South East Radio from the picket line, he said they have widespread support for their action: "Most most of the lecturers here are members of the TUI and we're all officially on strike and delighted to see that the the...Students Union of Ireland are also supporting it because they're aware that it's not just about lecturers it's about students." he said. "The the...School of Art is part of Carlow IT, part of Wexford campus and we just have two campuses here in Wexford, so Hill Street and ourselves are both officially on strike today." he added.
