Wexford renua candidate apologises for comments on sexuality
A Wexford Renua Ireland candidate has described comments he made on twitter last night as a 'rookie, stupid mistake'. Shane Dunphy said 'sexuality classifies as a lifestyle choice' during a discussion on the social media site about what defines a matter of conscience. He's since deleted the comments. It's the third controversy to hit the new party after TD Terence Flanagan had what's been described as a 'car crash' radio interview and it emerged a Renua councillor had broken a pledge to voters to remain as an independent. Shane Dunphy told South East RadioNews that he was new to twitter and his attention was not fully engaged when he sent the message. He says he does not believe sexuality is a lifestyle choice, it was a thoughtless and offensive thing to say and that he believes people are born gay or straight.
