Wexford solar farm part of €290 million renewable energy portfolio

A solar farm in Wexford is among seven renewable energy projects being launched as part of a 290-megawatt portfolio by Power Capital Renewable Energy.

The Dell solar farm in Wexford forms part of the company's RESS 2 portfolio, which spans seven projects across Dublin, Galway, Roscommon, Wicklow, Kilkenny, Meath and Wexford.

The portfolio represents a major step towards Power Capital's goal of developing a renewable energy portfolio approaching one gigawatt across Ireland.

The projects were officially launched at the Mainscourt Solar Farm in Ballyboughal, County Dublin, by Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment Darragh O'Brien.

Power Capital says the projects will also deliver long-term benefits to communities through Community Benefit Funds established under the Government's Renewable Electricity Support Scheme.

The seven projects are expected to contribute around €500,000 a year to local communities, amounting to an estimated €7.4 million over 15 years.

Funding will support locally-led projects including community facilities, energy efficiency, biodiversity, education and accessibility initiatives.

Power Capital CEO Justin Brown says the projects demonstrate what can be achieved through long-term investment and collaboration, while also delivering benefits to the communities hosting the developments.

Minister Darragh O'Brien says renewable energy infrastructure will play a critical role in meeting Ireland's climate targets, strengthening energy security and supporting sustainable economic growth.
