Wexford’s Anne Marie Kirwan Wins Ocean Hero Award
At the 2024 Ocean Hero Awards, Anne Marie Kirwan from Tomhaggard Clean Coasts won Individual of the Year for her dedication to preserving the coast through her volunteer work. The Tomhaggard Clean Coasts group, which she helped establish, was also shortlisted for Group of the Year after removing over 10 tonnes of waste from 25km of Wexford coastline in 2024. Additionally, Ballygarrett Tidy Towns was shortlisted in the Event of the Year category for their successful Cahore Little Tern Protection Project, which helped increase endangered bird nesting along North Wexford’s coastline. The awards celebrate the efforts of individuals and groups across Ireland working to protect and conserve the country’s coastal and marine environments.
