OBJECTION TO MAJOR RETAILER COMING TO WEXFORD TOWN EXPLAINED

An objection to a major retailer coming to Wexford Town has left the potential for 40 new jobs hanging in the balance.

TK Maxx had planned on opening a new store in the vacant property on Paul’s Quay.

However Nigel Hamilton, who own’s a business on the main street, has objected saying it will take more business away from the area.

He says parking remains a serious problem with a number of businesses being forced to close as a result.

President of the Chamber of Commerce in Wexford Martin Doyle says there were a limited number of properties suitable for the retailer.

He says the only other vacant premises is owned by Dunnes Stores and that they’re not going to allow TK Maxx to move in and potentially take some of their customers.
