MORE THAN 2,000 STUDENTS IN COUNTY WEXFORD RECEIVE JUNIOR CERT RESULTS TODAY

More than 60,000 pupils nationally and 2,156 students in County Wexford are getting their Junior Cert results today, with record numbers having sat higher level maths and science.

54 percent sat the honours maths exam – that is up from 52 percent last year.

While 91 percent of students took science. Four students earned 12 ‘A’ grades.

John O’Donavan, is the Chair of the ASTI’s Principals and Deputy Principals Advisory Committee.

He says the high numbers sitting science and honours maths bodes well for Ireland’s ‘knowledge economy’.

“We had 52 percent taking higher maths in 2013, we had 54 percent this year – they get a very good foundation in maths, it’s essential for success with life” he said.

“And science – 91 percent of students took science – which is important for continuing to build Ireland’s knowledge society” he added.
