CALL FOR CUT TO SPECIAL VAT RATE FOR HOSPITALITY SECTOR ‘COMICAL’

SIPTU’s call for the special VAT rate for the hospitality sector to be cut has been described as comical.

Restaurant owner Paul Treyvaud says the trade union has cherry picked one cost that has come down, compared to many that have gone up.

SIPTU argue that the benefits the sector has seen are not being passed on to industry workers and consumers.

Paul Treyvaud says that the proposals to scrap the preferential VAT rate are a joke.

“I remember watching a documentary with Tommy Tiernan not so long ago, and he was struggling for material” he said.

“So if Tommy you’re listening, you should become an intern with SIPTU for two weeks and you’ll have guaranteed material for a lifetime”.

“Because this is one of the most comical things that I have heard in my life”.

“SIPTU have cherry-picked one cost that has come down, as opposed to a thousand costs that have gone up” he added.
