CENTER PARCS WANTS TO OPEN HOLIDAY VILLAGE IN LONGFORD

A 100 million euro construction and tourism project is being lined up for Co Longford.

British resort company Center Parcs has applied for planning permission for a complex at a Coillte owned forest near the village of Ballymahon.

The Taoiseach is expected to launch the ambitious plan tomorrow.

Our business editor Vincent Wall says the construction phase alone could create 600 jobs in the area.

“That would be the equivalent of about 10,000 jobs in the greater Dublin area – 600 jobs in Ballymahon” he said.

“Planning permission has been lodged for the construction of more than 200 lodges and villas, with a swimming pool complex, restaurants and bars on a site leased by Coillte to Center Parcs at Newcastle Estate” he added.
