COUNTY COUNCILLOR CALLS FOR MORE HELP FOR FAMILIES SENDING CHILDREN TO SCHOOL

More needs to be done to support struggling families trying to send their children back to school according to a Wexford County Councillor.

Fianna Fáil’s Michael Sheehan has called on the government to step in and force schools to use generic uniforms and to expand the criteria for the back to school allowance.

His comments come as the children’s charity Barnardos today published it’s School Costs Survey which showed it costs around 345 euro to send a child to primary school and 735 euro to send a child into first year.

Councillor Sheehan, who’s also a teacher, says the issue needs to be addressed.

He says the government needs to make it easier for people to send their children to school.
