FEARS FOR RURAL RAILWAY LINES IN CO WEXFORD

It follows comments from the transport minister yesterday in which he said some railway lines could be forced to close if passenger numbers don’t improve.

Deputy Mayor of Wexford, Labour Councillor Joe Ryan has criticised Leo Varadkar’s comments saying the minister is failing to look at the bigger picture.

He says passenger numbers should not be the deciding factor in closing lines.

Deputy Ryan has highlighted the capabilities of Rosslare Europort to transfer foot passangers to and from the ferry and to carry freight via rail from the port – which he says are not being utilised.
