Homeless Hostel In Dublin Building Takeover ‘not Long term Solution’ – Mcverry

A group of campaigners who have occupied a NAMA-owned property in Dublin say they plan to house up to 60 homeless people there.

Apollo House on Tara Street has been renamed “Home Sweet Home” by a group of trade unionists, activists and artists who are converting the building into homeless accommodation.

Leading social justice campaigner Fr Peter McVerry has applauded their efforts and says they are helping to highlight the scandal of homelessness.

But he says the project is not a long-term solution, and that he doubts if many rough-sleepers would be willing to stay in dormitory-style rooms due to concerns over personal safety.
