HOWLIN WANTS TO OPEN TALKS ON PUBLIC SECTOR PAY IN THE SPRING

The Public Expenditure Minister says he wants to open discussions about public sector pay in the spring.

Wexford’s Brendan Howlin says it’s time to look beyond the Haddington Road Agreement – which expires next year.

He says – depending on the state finances – that he hopes to engage with unions to wind down the emergency measures which govern public pay.

Minister Brendan Howlin says that could take place as soon as the second quarter – to give clarity for the years ahead.

He says the Haddington Road agreement lasts until 2016 and he expects that to be honoured in full but he wants to ensure that they don’t come to a hiatus at the end of that and that we understand where we’re going over the next few years in relation to public sector pay.
