Millions Spent By Wexford Customers Who Shop Online

MILLIONS SPENT BY WEXFORD CUSTOMERS WHO SHOP ONLINE

Almost one hundred million euro is being spent online on purchases from companies outside of Ireland by consumers from County Wexford.

As a result a new national symbol has been launched to encourage people to buy Irish while shopping on the internet.

Forty three per cent of Irish consumers bought items online last year amounting to over four billon euro – that’s up from just under three billion billion the previous year.

But seventy five per cent of these purchases went through companies outside of Ireland.

In other words ninety eight euro per second is lost from the Irish econcomy according to Eurostat.

In response iCompany has developed the eMark – the national symbol for Irish owned and operated ecommerce sites.

Wexford shoppers will as a result be able to identify Irish owned companies on the internet.

The move is expected to help create more jobs by retaining more money in the Irish economy by encouraging shoppers to buy Irish online as well as shopping local in their own towns.
