49 per cent of co. wexford's students go on to third level education
The children of farmers are three times more likely to go to college than others - according to a Higher Education Authority report. Figures published in the Irish Independent show that almost half of all students in County Wexford now go on to universtiy or other third level instiutions. At 49 per cent it is still the lowest of all the counties in the south east and 2 per cent below the national average. Niamh Hourigan, Senior Lecturer in Sociology at UCC, says students from poorer backgrounds tend not to have the same encouragement to go on to third level.
