A number of people remain in Garda custody following a major anti-crime operation in County Carlow.
45 people were arrested in yesterday's operation targeting criminal activity including burglary, fraud and sexual offences. 14 people were charged with various offences, and a number have appeared before the courts. Meanwhile the Justice Minister says there will be no let up in the crackdown on criminal gangs engaged in burglary. Garda figures show a 34% drop in the number of burglaries in the past year, coinciding with the launch of Operation Thor. There's been more than thirty thousand patrols, two thousand five hundred arrests and nearly sixteen thousand searches carried out by Gardaí - since the operation launched in November last year. Tánaiste and Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald says she's determined to protect communities that have been the victims of crime.
