Coroner expresses concern over new death certs
A coroner has expressed concern about a new death cert that would not mention how someone died. Regulations to allow the cause of death to be left off a 'short form' cert are at an advanced stage. Tanaiste Joan Burton confirmed theNews when she was asked by an opposition TD about plans to help those who have lost someone through suicide. However Coroner in East and South Kerry Terence Casey thinks it is important that the details be open and on the record. "It means there'll be no record of the amount of people who do it" he said. "I've been speaking openly for the last couple of years about suicide to try and bring it home to people that it's not something to be hidden, it's something to be talked about to reduce the amount of deaths by suicide". "This I think will totally and absolutely reverse what I've been doing" he added.
