County wexford primary school closes due to falling student numbers
A rural community in County Wexford will lose another one of it's vital services today, according to a Wexford County Councillor. St Ibars National School in Clohamon is to close it's doors, over 60 years since it first opened. The school has fallen victim to a drop in enrolements and the subsequent loss of teachers in recent years leading to the closure. It comes as rural schools across the country continue to struggle to stay open. Local councillor Barbara Anne Murphy says its difficult to see how small communities are supposed to survive when all their services, such as the post office and local shop, are shut down.
