Dail dissolved and election date set
The president has officially dissolved the 31st Dail. Enda Kenny made his way to Aras an Uachtarain with a Garda escort after announcing the election in the Dail this morning. It was over in a little over two minutes as Enda Kenny requested the dissolution of the 31st Dail. President Higgins signed the warrant of dissolution - announcing the starting gun for the general election campaign. There will be a race this evening for the best poster space for candidates - with some having already jumped the gun before the Dail was officially dissolved. The shadow boxing of the past few months is finally over and now all the parties kick into full election mode. Millions will be spent over the next few weeks by parties all looking for your vote on February 26th - and to become members of the 32nd Dail - which will sit for the first time on March 10th.
