Denis O'Brien has lost his legal action over statements made in the Dáil about his banking affairs with the IBRC.
He claimed remarks made by Independent TD Catherine Murphy and Sinn Féin's Pearse Doherty effectively decided a case he was taking against RTÉ. The businessman wanted the court to "censure" them for straying into the judicial domain, but the court ruled against him and refused all the relief's sought. Afterwards, Deputy Murphy said the judgement reflects the importance of the separation of powers between the Oireachtas and the courts:
