Derek McGrath has been appointed as the new Wexford senior hurling manager on a three-year term following a meeting of the Wexford GAA County Board this evening (Thursday).
McGrath's appointment follows what Wexford GAA described as a "thorough recruitment process". He was recommended by the selection committee established to identify a successor to Keith Rossiter, with delegates approving the nomination at this evening's County Board meeting.
The former Waterford manager will now begin assembling his backroom team as preparations get under way for the 2027 inter-county season.
In a statement, Wexford GAA Chairperson John Kenny welcomed McGrath's appointment and said he was confident the new manager was the right person to lead the county forward.
"On behalf of Wexford GAA, I am delighted to welcome Derek McGrath as our new Senior Hurling manager," he said.
"Derek has consistently demonstrated throughout his career that he is an outstanding coach and leader, with an exceptional knowledge of the game and a proven ability to develop players and teams. We are excited to begin this new chapter under his leadership and I know that everyone involved in Wexford GAA will offer Derek and his management team their full support in the years ahead."
Kenny also paid tribute to outgoing manager Keith Rossiter, thanking him for his contribution to Wexford hurling.
"Keith has always served Wexford hurling with immense dedication and passion, as both player and manager, and I am hugely grateful to him for this," he said.
Looking ahead, Kenny said the appointment marked the beginning of a new chapter for Wexford hurling.
"The appointment of a senior inter-county manager is one of the most important decisions any county can make, and we are confident that Derek is the right person to lead Wexford hurling into its next chapter. We look forward to working closely with him as we continue to develop our players and strive for success on the field," he added.
Wexford GAA said it believes McGrath has the experience, vision and leadership qualities required to build on the foundations already in place and guide the county's senior hurling team in the coming seasons.
