Castletown Liam Mellows among just five clubs nationwide to secure funding through Huawei's Solar Sports Scheme.
A County Wexford GAA club has received a €10,000 funding boost to help cut its energy bills, reduce its carbon footprint and invest in the future of its local community.
Castletown Liam Mellows GAA Club has been named as one of five grassroots sports organisations across Ireland to benefit from Huawei's €50,000 Solar Sports Scheme.
The funding will support the installation of solar panels at the rural coastal club, helping it reduce its reliance on conventional energy sources while freeing up valuable funds for sporting and community activities.
The investment is particularly significant for a volunteer-led club serving players and families across a wide range of age groups.
The project will also help Castletown Liam Mellows achieve one of its Green Club renewable energy goals, supporting a more environmentally sustainable future.
Club Communications Officer Marcella O'Shaughnessy welcomed the announcement, describing the funding as a major boost for the club and wider locality.
"This funding is a huge boost to our rural coastal club, investing in solar panels achieves one of our Green Club renewable energy goals and will redirect funds to other areas to further support all in our club and community.
"This investment will help us make a positive and lasting difference to our locality for generations to come. Thank you to Huawei for making this possible."
The Huawei Solar Sports Scheme supports grassroots organisations undertaking projects aimed at improving club facilities, increasing participation and strengthening youth and community programmes.
Calvin Lan, CEO of Huawei Ireland, said the company was proud to support the volunteers, players and families who form the backbone of local sports clubs.
"Sports clubs are at the heart of communities across Ireland. We are proud to back the volunteers, players and families who keep them thriving.
"This grant will help Castletown Liam Mellows GAA Club invest in sustainability and its future, creating a lasting benefit for members and the wider community."
The €10,000 award is expected to deliver long-term benefits for Castletown Liam Mellows, allowing money saved on energy costs to be redirected towards supporting its members and the wider community.
