New MyHome figures reveal the median asking price of a property in County Wexford has reached €325,000, putting further pressure on young people and first-time buyers.
The dream of owning a home in County Wexford is becoming increasingly difficult, with asking prices rising by €30,000 in just twelve months.
Figures discussed with MyHome Managing Director Joanne Geary show the median asking price of a property in Wexford has reached €325,000, while a typical three-bedroom semi-detached home now costs €280,000 — also up €30,000 year-on-year.
For young workers earning between €30,000 and €35,000 annually, the figures raise serious questions about whether homeownership in their own county is becoming financially unrealistic.
A first-time buyer earning €35,000 could potentially borrow €140,000 under the standard four-times-income mortgage limit, subject to lender approval — leaving a significant shortfall compared with local property prices.
The latest MyHome Property Price Report, published on October 13, shows annual asking price inflation nationally has slowed to 3.9%, its lowest level in more than three years.
However, outside Dublin, asking prices are still rising by 4.8% annually.
The report also reveals a 12.5% increase in properties advertised for sale over the past year, bringing the national total to 14,630.
Speaking to South East Radio news, MyHome.ie Managing Director Joanne Geary acknowledged the difficulties facing prospective buyers, particularly those trying to enter the market for the first time.
While increased housing supply offers some encouragement, affordability remains a major obstacle for young workers already struggling with rent and everyday living expenses.
And with house prices continuing to outpace what many young people can realistically borrow, the question remains — is owning a home in Wexford becoming a dream reserved for those who can afford it?
