Furniture Amnesty At Holmestown To Start Next Week

Wexford County Council will host a household furniture amnesty this month.

This is a chance for residents to dispose of tables, chairs and couches at the Holmestown Recycling Centre.

Each customer can only bring four items and only freestanding furniture will be allowed.

Households can only participate in the amnesty once as multiple trips are not permitted.

The scheme starts next Tuesday and runs from 9am to 3pm between Tuesday and Friday for the next three weeks.

The council is warning that this project is strictly for domestic household users only and no commercial waste is permitted.

This is an anti dumping intiative funded by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment.

There has been no notification of a mattress amnesty this month and mattresses will not be accepted at this time.

It comes as council's around the country continue to try and tackle the scourge of illegal dumping.

A report from Irish Country Living earlier this year found over €4m of taxpayers’ money was spent clearing rural Ireland of illegally dumped waste in 2025.

In Wexford, the council spent €413,800 to remove items such as wardrobes, couches and mattresses that have been left by the roadside or in unused fields.

That report was funded by the Local Democracy Reporting Scheme.
