In September 2025, the Garda National Public Order Unit undertook a series of large-scale training exercises across the Eastern Region aimed at strengthening readiness and response capability. At Rosslare Europort, over 100 Garda members participated in intensive training scenarios on board ferries, designed to prepare for any potential public order incidents at one of Ireland’s key gateways to Europe. In Waterford, more than 60 members completed two days of training focused on stadium tactics, practicing coordinated responses to violent disorder and crowd control in large public settings. All members of the Public Order Unit are frontline Gardaí who volunteer for this challenging role. They undergo continuous specialist training to ensure the highest standards of professionalism, safety, and operational effectiveness when responding to serious public order situations nationwide.
