The Gorey to Rosslare rail line is under threat following revelations this morning about Irish Rail's finances.
According to the Irish independent it is one of four rail lines being considered for closure by Irish Rail in a bid to shore up its deteriorating finances. The closure of the last remaining rail line in County Wexford would save the company €4.4 million per year. Other lines earmarked for possible closure are Waterford to Limerick Junction, Ennis to Athenry and Limerick to Ballybrophy. Irish Rail has accumulated losses of €159 million over the past ten years but unions want a 3.75% wage increase.
