Increase in criminal activity in co. wexford according to commercial crime survey
There's been a 9 per cent increase in criminal activity in County Wexford over the past year. Netwatch's Commercial Crime survey has found that most incidents are recorded in the main cities, but that there's been an increase in rural crime. Weekends see the most criminal incidents according to the national survey, with 37 per cent of activity on Saturday and Sunday. Communciations Manager with Netwatch is Therese Cullen. She says a decrease in Garda numbers particularly in rural areas is also having an affect. In urban areas there are more gardaí and more people around to witness a crime taking place, whereas in more rural areas businesses tend to be more isolated leading to more burglaries.
