National conference on farm safety takes place in kilkenny
The Health and Safety Authority and Teagasc are hosting a national conference on farm safety and health in Kilkenny today. The event will bring together psychologists, workplace safety and farmers to explore how to change dangerous behaviours and attitudes on farms. The Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association says more needs to be done to educate older farmers about farm safety. John Flynn of the ICSA says work is underway to address the issue. "There's been a number of DVDs produced and a literature ahs been produced very year and Teagasc run courses through the winter months - and there's farm walks as well" he said. "So there are quite an amount of material at hand". "There is a lot of events and activities, and it's a built in agenda on most farm organisations and national executive meetings" he added.
