In a significant step towards improving Ireland’s border control capabilities post-Brexit, Ministers Jack Chambers and Kevin “Boxer” Moran today celebrated the official opening of the new Customs and Border Control Complex at Rosslare Europort in Co. Wexford. This state-of-the-art facility, known as Terminal 7, is one of the largest and most important infrastructure projects delivered in Ireland in recent years. With a total investment of €230 million, the complex was completed on time and within budget and is designed to handle essential post-Brexit checks on goods arriving in Ireland from outside the European Union. Minister Chambers, who oversees Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, welcomed the facility’s strategic importance. He stated, "Critically, this essential new infrastructure guarantees Ireland stable and continued access through Rosslare to the EU single market and its population of 450 million people." The new terminal includes 34 new buildings, replacing outdated temporary infrastructure put in place when new Brexit regulations came into effect in 2021. The new complex enhances Rosslare Europort’s capacity by streamlining border control processes for both passengers and freight. It includes dedicated areas for the inspection of food products, ensuring compliance with sanitary and phytosanitary regulations. The complex also features a truck scanner, vital for the Office of the Revenue Commissioners to monitor vehicles entering the country and combat fraud. Minister of State for the Office of Public Works (OPW), Kevin Moran, also expressed his satisfaction with the completion of the project. He praised the collaborative efforts of all involved, including the OPW, the contractor John Paul Construction and numerous governmental agencies. Moran added, “This Terminal complex will well serve the Irish economy and the development of the South East region as a whole.” The new Customs and Border Control Complex is a vital addition to Rosslare Europort, which plays a central role in Ireland’s trade and transport links with Europe. The upgrade ensures the port remains equipped to handle the growing demands of post-Brexit customs requirements while continuing to drive economic growth in the South East region.
