Nominations for labour leader to close tomorrow
Nominations for the position of leader of the Labour Party will close at 12 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. The Social Protection Minister Joan Burton and Junior Health Minister Alex White have already put their names forward to contest the top job - following Eamon Gilmore's resignation last week. There is also some speculation that Kerry TD Arthur Spring could enter the race. Meanwhile, it's likely there will be four candidates contesting the position of deputy leader. Junior Transport Minister Alan Kelly, the Minister of State for Research and Innovation Seán Sherlock and Cork TD Michael McCarthy have already declared their candidacies for the position. While, Waterford TD Ciara Conway is expected to throw her hat into the ring during a press conference later.
