Fine Gael TD Brian Brennan has called on the Government to ensure all farmers approved under the Straw Incorporation Measure receive their full payments.
Speaking in the Dáil, the Wicklow-Wexford deputy warned that applications to the scheme have exceeded the €10 million budget allocated for 2026, raising concerns that some farmers could face reduced payments.
Deputy Brennan said tillage farmers are under significant financial pressure and argued that the scheme is vital not only for farm incomes but also for reducing carbon emissions through sustainable farming practices.
Agriculture Minister Martin Heydon acknowledged that the scheme has been heavily oversubscribed and confirmed that all funding options are currently being considered, with a decision expected shortly.
