North Wexford TD Calls For Major Improvements To Southeast Transport Links

A North Wexford TD has called for urgent improvements to rail and bus services across the southeast, warning that existing public transport cannot keep pace with growing demand.

Brian Brennan raised the issue in the Dáil last night, pointing to the continued growth of towns including Gorey and Arklow, as well as the expansion of Rosslare Europort.

He said communities across Wexford and Wicklow are being underserved by rail services which are too infrequent, inconvenient and lacking in capacity.

Deputy Brennan also raised concerns around the reliability of existing bus links.

While he acknowledged the impact Local Link services have had on rural communities, he said increased frequency and additional services are now needed.

He told the Dáil that continued population growth in Wexford and Wicklow means the current transport network is struggling to meet demand and called for a coherent transport infrastructure plan for the southeast.

Meanwhile a public meeting takes place in Gorey this evening regardomg improvements to rail services along the Wexford and Wicklow coast.

The meeting gets underway at 7 o’clock tonight in the Loch Garman Arms in Gorey.
