Pub owners across the country are hoping the new Good Friday opening hours will boost trade across the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
It's traditionally a busy tourist weekend and Fridays are one of their busiest days every week. The ban on selling alcohol today has been lifted for the first time since 1927. Slattery's Bar on Capel Street in Dublin was one of the first in the country to sell a legal pint today. Owner Brian Conlon says in the past tourists have found the closure really frustrating.
