Tanaiste Hopeful Of Seeing Progress On SETU Wexford Campus In The New Year

The Tanaiste says he wants to see a university campus set up in Wexford very soon.

Simon Harris says he understands proposals for an SETU site in the county will be submitted in the coming months.

A 50 acre site, acquired specifically for the SETU campus, became the subject of a legal challenge before the High Court in 2025.

Minister Harris says all the stakeholders here are in agreement that this project must move forward:

"My understanding is the engagement is going very, very well, and the final proposals are due to be submitted in the coming months to the Department of Further and Higher Education.

"This is a project I've been personally involved in as part of my past postings and I want to see this Wexford campus happen.

"Minister James Lawless is very supportive of it, as is SETU and Wexford County Council so we just need to see those final proposals into the Department."

The former Higher Education Minister is now the Finance Minister and says money will not be an issue for this vital piece of infrastructure in the South East.

"Funding will be forthcoming for this project because it's transformational.

"We know there's a direct link between providing third level education in a county and foreign direct investment, jobs and enterpise.

"I think for a county like Wexford these are very important so as soon as those proposals come into the Department, I'll work closely with Minister Lawless to make progress."
