Sergeant Niall Maher of Wexford Gardaí has issued a reminder to motorists regarding new legislation focused on incorrect license plates. The new rules, which are now in effect, require all registration plates to meet specific regulations. Plates must feature black numbers and letters on a white reflective background, with the county name in Irish at the top. Additionally, the European Union flag—featuring 12 gold stars in a circle—must be on the left-hand side of the plate, along with the letters “IRL” in white on a blue reflective background. Sergeant Maher explained that Gardaí will be closely monitoring vehicles to ensure compliance, with fines of €60 for incorrect plates. While the offence will not carry penalty points, offenders will receive a notice by post. Drivers are urged to check their plates to avoid penalties under this new enforcement.
