Wexford Receives Over €72,000 for Water Quality Improvement Projects

Minister for Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, James Browne TD, has announced that over €72,000 will be allocated to community-driven water quality improvement projects in Wexford. The funding is part of the Community Water Development Fund and the Catchment Support Fund, both of which are administered by the Local Authority Waters Programme on behalf of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

The funding announcement includes grants for several important projects across the county, which aim to enhance local water bodies, protect biodiversity and improve water quality. Minister Browne expressed his commitment to supporting local communities in their efforts to protect and restore rivers, lakes, and streams.

"Local action by communities and groups is critical in our efforts to protect our waters," said Minister Browne. "Through these funds, we are enabling grassroots initiatives that are directly addressing water quality issues and contributing to the long-term health of our waterways."

Projects in Wexford:

Community Water Development Fund Grant:

  • Ahare River and Biodiversity Group – €25,000 for the Inch Sub-Catchment Feasibility Study.

Catchment Support Fund Grants:

  • Slaney River Trust CLG – €42,718.70.

In addition to the immediate impact of these projects, they contribute to the broader goals of Ireland’s Water Action Plan 2024, which aims to restore water bodies to 'good' status by 2027, in line with the EU’s Water Framework Directive.
