Éadaoin Kinsella O’Neill from Gorey, Co. Wexford, will feature in a new TG4 documentary Eachtraí Foghlama le Kayleigh Trappe (Learning Adventures with Kayleigh Trappe), which explores the many ways people across Ireland connect with the Irish language.
Éadaoin appears in the programme when presenter Kayleigh Trappe visits Inis Oírr, the final stop on her journey. Éadaoin made the bold move from Wexford to the Aran Islands to complete her Leaving Certificate through Irish at Coláiste Ghobnait, after a Transition Year Gaeltacht trip sparked her love for the language and the community. “I fell in love with the place, the language and the people,” she explains, adding that she values the freedom and independence of island life: “I can go anywhere, any time, and that’s brilliant.” The documentary follows Kayleigh as she meets learners of all ages nationwide – from chess-playing coders in Dublin to crochet enthusiasts in Kerry and boatbuilders in Connemara. But for Éadaoin, her story is one of following her dream and embracing Irish as part of everyday life. Produced by Spicy Dog Media, Eachtraí Foghlama le Kayleigh Trappe airs on TG4 on Monday, 29 September at 7.30pm.
