Wexford's Dr. David O'Reilly was honoured as a finalist at the Irish Cancer Society Research Awards on February 19th, 2026, for his groundbreaking work on improving outcomes for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
His research focuses on using liquid biopsy technology to identify treatment targets and early signs of treatment resistance, offering new hope to patients whose cancers can't be treated with surgery or radiation.
Dr. O'Reilly, a PhD candidate at RCSI, said being shortlisted for the award was a proud moment, recognizing his commitment to patient-centred research.
The Irish Cancer Society invests €4 million annually in cancer research, funding over 150 projects across Ireland.
