NTA WORKING ON SOLUTION FOR AREAS AFFECTED BY CUTTING OF BUS EIREANN SERVICE

The National Transport Authority is working on a solution to the termination of the Bus Eireann Expressway Service connecting Bunclody with Dublin and Waterford.

Chief Executive of Bus Eireann Martin Nolan says the Expressway service has to be self financing and its the job of the National Transport Authority to find solutions when this service is terminated.

The NTA is now working on the best alternative for the Bunclody situation.

Speaking at a meeting of the Oireachtas Transport Committee on the matter today, Martin Nolan outlined why the Expressway service has to be profit driven.

He says they can not trade recklessly and expressway has to make a commercial return on it’s routes to enable fleet replacement to take place as it does not receive any funding for busses or coaches on these routes.
